Pour la première fois, Fès et Florence figurent côte à côte dans un
ouvrage richement illustré. Loin de chercher à relever des
similitudes dans l’histoire des deux villes ou à évoquer les
relations qu’elles ont pu entretenir, on a voulu rendre
hommage à la grandeur de leurs destinées et aux
hommes qui les ont forgées et en ont fait des villes
phare, attirant pendant des siècles les plus grands
savants et artistes.
Pourtant, des convergences existent : goût
partagé du raffinement et de l’art de vivre au
quotidien, importance de l’héritage artistique pour
Fès – héritière de Kairouan et d’Al-Andalous – et pour
Florence qui se réapproprie les modèles classiques et
puise dans le savoir de l’Orient.
Trois auteurs d’exception retracent, de manière savante
mais de lecture fort agréable, les parcours historique et
artistique des deux villes. Leurs textes sont éclairés par une superbe
iconographie.
For the first time Fez and Florence appear side by side in a
sumptuously illustrated work. Far from looking for
similarities in the histories of the two cities or evoking the
relationship they maintained with each other, the book
pays tribute to their great destinies and to the men
who forged them, making them pioneering cities
that attracted the greatest scholars and artists
through the centuries.
However, some similarities do exist. They
share tastes in refinement and everyday lifestyles,
and the importance of their artistic heritage, for
Fez – heir to Kairouan and Al-Andalus – and for
Florence, which reclaimed the classical models and
drew on Oriental knowledge.
Three exceptional authors retrace the historical and
artistic trajectories of both cities in a knowledgeable and
readable way. Superb illustrations enrich the text.
